Assessing Process Criticality in BIA

The objective of this SOP is to assess the criticality of each process in the Business Impact Analysis (BIA) to determine the importance of restoring them in the event of a disruption.

Key Steps:

  1. Open the criticality matrix provided.
  2. Evaluate the time criticality of each process using the matrix.
  3. In the BAU field, select the Maximum Tolerable Period of Disruption (MTPD) from the dropdown.
  4. Choose an existing impact category that best matches the process being assessed.
  5. Add a new impact category by entering the title and selecting it from the dropdown menu, if necessary.
  6. Add multiple impact categories if applicable.
  7. Leave any additional comments as required.
  8. Define if there is a peak season for the process by selecting the option and entering relevant dates and comments.
  9. Click on "Save and Close" to update the table.
  10. To adjust the criticality of any process, click on it, edit the necessary fields, and save the changes.

Cautionary Notes:

  • Ensure accurate assessment of time criticality for each process.
  • Double-check impact categories and peak season information for accuracy.
  • Save changes promptly to avoid data loss.

  • Familiarise yourself with the criticality matrix to expedite the assessment process.
  • Keep track of any additional comments or reasons for peak seasons to provide comprehensive information.
  • Regularly review and update criticality assessments as needed for ongoing accuracy.
