Understanding Simulation Development
Standard Operating Procedure for Using Sims
Objective
This SOP outlines the steps to effectively create and manage a simulation (sim) for team presentations.
Key Steps
1. Accessing the Sim 0:01
-
Open the sim you want to use.
-
Note that the initial screen is for building the sim, not for playing.
2. Developing the Sim 0:16
-
Ensure all injects (elements of the sim) are correct before proceeding.
-
Identify participants who will be involved in the sim.
3. Managing Roles and Adding Participants 0:29
-
Use the role management feature to assign roles to participants.
-
Add participants by selecting their names and assigning them roles (e.g., CMT leader).
4. Inviting Participants 0:51
-
Send invitations to participants via email.
-
Facilitators will be available for participants during the sim.
5. Changing Sim Status to In Progress 1:10
-
Once all participants are added, change the sim status to 'In Progress'.
-
This makes the sim live and ready for participants to log in.
6. Participant Access and Features 1:39
-
Participants will receive an email with a personal link to access their play screen.
-
The play screen will adjust to their time zone and allow messaging between participants.
7. Starting the Simulation Clock 2:15
-
When ready to play, start the clock.
-
This will activate the injects for participants.
8. Managing Injects During the Simulation 2:30
-
Play injects as needed and monitor participant responses.
-
Participants can reply to injects, and their responses will appear in the timeline.
9. Utilizing Time Jump and Auto Play Features 3:20
-
Use double-click to jump down time in the simulation.
-
Enable auto play for injects by clicking on them until they turn green.
10. Ending the Simulation 4:01
-
When finished, end the simulation to close the screen.
11. Resetting the Simulation for Future Use 4:12
-
Go back to the building screen to reset the injects.
-
Delete any unnecessary injects to prepare a fresh sim.
Cautionary Notes
-
Ensure all injects are thoroughly checked before starting the simulation.
-
Confirm that all participants have received their invitations and can access the sim.
Tips for Efficiency
-
Familiarize yourself with the sim interface before the actual presentation.
-
Test the invitation process with a colleague to ensure it works smoothly.
-
Keep a checklist of injects and participant roles to streamline the setup process.
